Lively Minds is a global specialist in last-mile ECD. 

We’re a 100+ member multinational team with one clear goal: get practical ECD ideas and information to parents at the last mile at massive scale.

Our Central Team designs and develops the programme, systems and tools to deliver it at scale. Work spans content development, ECD pedagogy, finance, operations, radio production, monitoring and evaluation, human resources, advocacy, fundraising and communications. 

Our Delivery Teams are responsible for successful delivery on the ground, managing stakeholders, policy development and working closely with our central team to identify challenges and opportunities.  We have offices in Tamale, Bolga, Techiman, Accra (Ghana) and Jinja (Uganda).

James Adongo Awini
Director of Programme Delivery

James leads all things implementation in Ghana and Uganda and is based in Tamale, Ghana. He ensures that all risks and challenges are quickly identified and mitigated.James was appointed as Director of Programme Delivery in 2024, having previously held the Ghana Country Director role since 2021 and Deputy Country Director role from 2020. James’ progress through the organization has been notable, as he began his journey at Lively Minds as Regional Manager for the Upper East in 2014.  

He has been involved in all aspects of Lively Minds' work in Ghana. This includes being instrumental to our growth in the Upper East region; fundamental to the set-up and expansion of the Lively Minds Together radio show; and a key figure in the establishment of the Ghana Government's Lively Minds Programme Working Group.

Eloise Cook
Director of Finance

Eloise leads finance globally and is based in London, UK. Eloise manages all finance risks, working closely with Finance staff spread across Ghana, Uganda and UK. Eloise works closely with the Finance and Audit Committee.

Eloise joined Lively Minds in November 2022 as the Director of Finance.

For over ten years, Eloise has developed her professional accounting expertise, initially completing her technical ACA training in practice, she then moved into the not-for-profit sector to support a range of growing organisations with their financial needs. Previously, she spent over five years with a UK Government-funded technology accelerator working across all areas of the finance function, where she also established an accounting apprenticeship scheme to provide the opportunity for a recent school leaver to gain valuable professional skills during the Covid pandemic. Her passion for the International Development sector was sparked through a voluntary accounting placement with an NGO in Siem Reap, Cambodia aiming to lift children and women out of poverty, where she worked alongside the local staff to strengthen their financial rigour.

Eloise holds a Masters degree in Mathematics and Physics from Durham University. She enjoys baking, photography, and watching her young nieces growing up.

Katie Godfrey
Head of M&E

Katie leads   M&E globally at Lively Minds and is based in the UK. Katie leads on evidencing the impact of Lively Minds’ work, on evaluations, research pieces and works closely with her team and the implementation teams to ensure the data Lively Minds gathers is meaningful and evidence based.

Katie joined Lively Minds in October 2021 as the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation.

Katie has ten years of professional and voluntary experience in international education in sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. She joined Lively Minds from CAMFED International, and her voluntary experience includes previous membership of the Executive Committee of the UK Forum for International Education and Training. Katie has worked closely with teams while at Camfed in Ghana and other countries across Africa,

Katie’s professional experience includes the management of evaluations, survey design and data analysis. She has led monitoring, evaluation and learning activities for programmes at all levels of education, from pre-primary to tertiary. Katie is particularly interested in the intersections of gender, socio-economic status and disability on educational access and outcomes, and has a passion for helping people to understand data and use it effectively to improve programme quality and outcomes.

Katie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Studies and a Master of Research (MRes) in International Development. She is based near London, is a keen runner and walker, and enjoys spending time exploring the more remote corners of the UK.

John Twesigye Kamwaka
Country Director for Lively Minds Uganda

John Twesigye is a seasoned executive leader with over 15 years of experience in the Humanitarian Development and Corporate service with a rich experience in design and implementation of large scale Education Programmes. He Currently serves as the Country Director for Lively Minds Uganda and held this position since April 2021. He is based in Jinja City which is a few minutes walk from the Source of River Nile-the longest River in the World.

Prior to joining Lively Minds, he was the Education Technical Programmes Manager for World Vision Uganda and also served in various managerial and technical roles at World Vision Uganda from February 2007 to March 2021.

Apart from his current position and as part of his professional career, John has assumed many positions in various business and Corporate sector where notably he is the Past President for Rotary Club of Jinja City and was the Vice President of Presidents for Rotary Eastern Area one. During his tenure as the Club President , he steered the club to win its first ever Rotary Citation Certification which is the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve and is awarded by the Rotary International President.

John is also the Founder member and Chairperson of Golden Medical Foundation which runs the first Pioneer member owned and funded Health Saving scheme in Uganda.

John is also the CEO of Beta Eco Farms which he co-founded with his wife Esther.  Beta Eco Farms is an agro-eco mixed farm located in Wakiso district-Uganda  and has risen to prominence for being a leading conservation of various ornamental birds and hundreds of plant species.

He holds a Master’s degree in Education Planning and Curriculum Studies from Ndejje University, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences (Economics) from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Gulu University.  He also holds a Certificate of Finance for Non-Finance Managers from Uganda Management Institute.

Alison Naftalin
Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Alison is the founder and CEO and is based in the United Kingdom.

 

Alison founded Lively Minds in 2008 following a trip to Ghana where she saw the complex challenges facing rural communities and huge opportunities for change. She spent several years living in both Ghana and Uganda working with Mothers and kids in rural communities to design, test and optimise the programme and then later work out how to scale it.

In recognition of her efforts in 2010, she was shortlisted for the Vodafone World of Difference Award. In 2011, she won the Civil Service Award for Volunteering, and in 2012, was short-listed for a Ghana UK-Based Achievement Award.

In 2013, she was a finalist in the Clarins Dynamisante Woman of the Year Award. In 2018 she was a Gratitude Foundation fellow and in 2019 a Rainer Arnold fellow of Mulago Foundation.

Prior to founding Lively Minds, Alison worked as a lawyer in the Central Government for 7 years, working in the Treasury Solicitor’s Department, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Defence. Before that spent 2 years training at Clifford Chance LLP. Prior to that she studied Modern History at St John’s College, Oxford University

Thea Robson
COO / Advisor

With over 20 years of experience, Thea is a seasoned COO who has worked across the not for profit, government and corporate sectors.  Having spent her formative years as a management consultant with EY, Thea has worked across the globe to support organisations deliver operations (internal and external) in the most cost effective, impactful and efficient way.  Always putting people at the heart of what she does, she has led teams of up to 5000, run offshore shared service and contact centres as well as being a senior leader in government emergency response programmes.  She has been part of the Lively Minds team, often stepping in to lead programmes, since she volunteered in Uganda on a sabbatical from EY in 2011.

Fayudatu Yakubu
Country Director, Lively Minds Ghana

Fayudatu Yakubu is an accomplished development professional with over 14 years of experience in managing large-scale programs in education, health, livelihoods, and youth development. As the Country Director for Lively Minds Ghana, she leads the implementation of the organization’s national strategy, overseeing program delivery, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability efforts in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES). Her leadership ensures that early childhood education initiatives are effectively integrated into government systems, benefiting thousands of children in underserved communities.

Before assuming the role of Country Director, Fayudatu served as the Regional Manager for Northern, North East, and Oti regions, where she successfully expanded program implementation to 26 districts, enhancing operational efficiency and improving early childhood education outcomes. Her ability to drive large-scale impact is underpinned by her expertise in strategic planning, policy engagement, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Fayudatu is completing her MSc in International Relations and Development at East London University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Information Studies from the University of Ghana, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from the Institute of Commercial Management (UK). She is also pursuing an MSc in Leadership and Organizational Development at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Ghana. In recognition of her exemplary leadership, strategic vision, and contributions to social impact, she was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Strategic Leadership by the University of Brazil Campinas (Unibras).

A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Fayudatu brings strong program leadership and risk management skills to her role. Her commitment to excellence has been recognized globally, she was a Top Finalist at the Emerging Leaders Awards of the Institute of Leadership UK in 2024 and secured second place as Youth Changemaker of the Year at the 2024 Ghana Youth Excellence Awards.

Beyond her role at Lively Minds, Fayudatu is an advocate for leadership development and mentorship. She serves as the National Vice President of Junior Chamber International Ghana, where she drives initiatives that empower young leaders and foster sustainable change.

Her passion, dedication, and strategic vision continue to shape impactful programs that transform lives, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality early childhood education.

Michael Angambori Atengdem
Global IT Manager

Key Strengths: ICT literacy training, Product and services documentation, IT Systems management, IT Infrastructure and networks, Business Development and managing IT projects

Michael leads the Lively Minds IT function globally, ensuring all IT needs are met and is based in, the UK. Managing all IT projects and IT risks and ensures Lively Minds staff have the appropriate training in IT matters.
Michael joined Lively Minds in February 2019 as an IT administrator and currently holds the position of Global IT Manager. He has oversight responsibility for all IT systems and Administration for Lively Minds Globally.

At Lively Minds Michael is involved in all our planning and implementation of technology and systems. Michael also has a lead technical role in the production of radio and media content for the Lively Minds Together radio show.

Michael spent 10 years in the IT industry before joining Lively Minds and boasts a huge range of IT experience, certifications, and qualifications. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Management Information Systems, both from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology. In addition, he holds several professional qualifications in, Microsoft certifications, Blockchain Technology, ITIL, Cisco, Agile Scrum, AWS and is a certified UN DIAL trainer for Digital literacy.
Michael loves football and an avid Liverpool fan. When he’s not watching football or supporting businesses to reach their digital technology goals he is travelling to new countries and sampling the local cuisine.

Sarah Baryayanga
Global Finance Manager

Sarah is  a chartered accountant with an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University. She has over 12 years finance and audit experience in the NGO sector and is well versed with fund management and budget implementation taking note of compliance and the importance of a strong internal control risk system. Before she joined Lively Minds, she has worked for similar charities such as Pollicy, Childs I Foundation, World Vision and Oxfam. She has also led Global and Gavi funds  audits in Uganda, South Sudan and Nigeria.  Sarah loves to see happy children. She enjoys being with family and if she had time, she'd love to resume her passion for tennis.

Juliette Benet
Senior Development Officer

Juliette leads Lively Minds’ business development through donor reporting, impact reporting, proposal writing and applications for challenge events, awards and speaking engagements. 

For over 8 years, she has worked in the humanitarian aid and development sector in a wide range of contexts with a consistent focus on child protection and education. Juliette is an expert in writing for international organisations and has experience in research and analysis, communications, and in grant and donors’ relations. 

Prior to joining Lively Minds, she worked at the International Catholic Migration Commission in Brussels as Communications and Institutional Partnerships Officer. Before that, she honed her analytical and writing expertise at the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (NRC) in Geneva. She also has an extensive field experience in Greece with child refugees and in Sri Lanka and the Philippines as a Grants and Project officer for ChildFund International. She began her career at the European Commission DG ECHO as a Field Security Analyst, understanding the grants and donor system from inside. 

Juliette holds a master’s degree in international Humanitarian Law and Action and a Post-graduate diploma in Human Rights protection. She is as well a trained journalist.

Aside from her commitment to see all children thriving, she loves to cook and combines this with her passion for writing by authoring her own recipes for magazines. 

Jacqueline Coffie
Interim Head of HR

Jackee, as she prefers to be called is the Interim Head of HR based in Accra. Jackee is a passionate and professional HR Practitioner with over 15 years work experience in human resource management, administration, office management, contract administration, operations, board management and high level executive support. She has about a decade work experience in the international NGO space.  

Jackee holds an MBA with a focus in Human Resource Management and a Professional Certificate (level 3) in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP), Ghana, now Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana (CIHRM).

Prior to joining Lively Minds, Jackee was a freelance Consultant and has also worked with Zormelo & Associates as an ad hoc consultant, iDE Ghana (international NGO) as the Director of People and Culture and CAMFED Ghana (international NGO) as the Human Resource Manager.

Her career span include working with the Embassy of the State of Israel, Public Procurement Authority, G-Oak Consult Ltd., Revi Motors Co. Ltd., Efoshi Cargo Services and ABM Consult Ltd. in different leadership roles.

Jackee finds joy in volunteering, mentoring emerging HR practitioners and working in the NGO sector.

Norah Ibuto
Uganda Partnerships Manager

Norah is a highly experienced social worker with over nine years of dedicated service in international NGOs. She is passionate about empowering vulnerable communities and has led implementation of a various programmes addressing  livelihoods, sexual reproductive health, education, and Early Childhood Development challenges in Uganda. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Islamic University in Uganda and a Master's in Business Administration, specializing in Project Planning and Management from Makerere University.

Norah joined livelyminds in 2021 as a Programme Coordinator, she advanced to the role of Programme Manager in 2022. In both positions, she worked tirelessly to mentor staff and local government stakeholders, ensuring the successful delivery and expansion of the livelyminds programme from six to twelve subcounties across Mayuge District by 2023.

Before joining livelyminds, Norah contributed significantly to Restless Development, where she worked in Fundraising, Marketing, and Programme management.  

In her current position as Uganda Partnerships Manager, Norah focuses on raising the organisation’s visibility and forging strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the ECD sector.

Tindana Kubilla
Expansion Manager

Tindana Kubilla, Expansion Manager for the Ghana team joined Lively Minds in April 2021. The role builds up enormous experience in project management, organizational skills, leadership, partner engagement, large team management and results oriented.  

Tindana has over 12 years’ experience working in the developmental spheres in several sectors notably Maternal, Child & Health Nutrition (MCHN), Cottage Industries, Evaluation Research, WASH, Youth Incubation and Acceleration and Education across the length and breadth of Ghana.  

Tindana worked to train over 1000 Ghanaian Youth to acquire soft skills and good attitude for the job market and in start-up business creation for self-reliance. He contributed in achieving this goal in the youth of Senegal in Dakar and St. Louis through the Global Affairs Canada sponsored Equality Work Improvement Project.  

Prior to joining Lively Minds, worked with Crossroads International as a Volunteer Recruitment Consultant of African & Canadian expatriates for CI African Volunteer Cooperation Programme.  

Tindana enjoys a lot of soccer and scrabbles, He is an enthusiastic reader of both English and French novels. He has passion and interest in studying new languages.

Sheena Lahren
Special Projects Lead

Sheena Lahren is a special projects lead based in the United States. She worked for Lively Minds from 2016-2021 as the Ghana Country Director and then COO. She supported the team through the test and transition period in Ghana, as well as in preparing the organisation for scale.

She loved her time at Lively Minds so much, she just couldn’t stay away! She returned and uses her expertise on the programme to lead on various projects.

Sheena holds an MPA from the University of Washington Evans School of Public Policy and Governance. In addition to working in the international development sector, she has previously held roles in research and teaching.

In her free time, Sheena is a traditional Korean rice wine brewer who will soon be opening her own brewery! She also loves exploring the wonders of the Pacific Northwest, and doting on her 2 dogs and cat (all who moved back to the states with her from Ghana).

Abby Murphy
Global Curriculum Manager

Abby Murphy is the Global Curriculum Manager based in Uganda. She leads the design and development of the Lively Minds portfolio of curriculum, including the technical support package for government and a parenting course and radio show for parents.  

She ensures the curriculum is simple enough to scale through government systems, whilst founded in behaviour change techniques, to improve the early childhood care and education provided to rural children.

She joined Lively Minds in October 2020 as the Global Content Officer, building her expertise to become a Curriculum Specialist and later the Global Curriculum Manager.

Before Lively Minds, Abby completed a BA. International Development and NGO Management, and an MA. Security, Conflict, and International Development.
She worked for non-profit organisations in the UK, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Uganda. Outside of work, Abby enjoys exploring the world with her family and watching her daughter grow.  

Fred Nantogmah
Operations Manager

Fred Nantogmah is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in project management, business advisory, operations management, and monitoring and evaluation across various sectors. As Operations Manager at Lively Minds, he enhances programme delivery quality, strengthens risk management, drives operational efficiency, and aligns systems with the organization’s strategic goals. His career includes roles such as business coach under the GIZ WIDU Programme, lecturer at C.K. Tedam University, and multiple positions at BasicNeeds-Ghana, where he contributed to mental health development and advocacy projects.

Fred holds an MSc in Information Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and is pursuing a PhD in Computer Science. He is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and has received training in Data Science and Machine Learning from MIT, Impact Evaluation from GEMNet-Health, and safeguarding from the Humanitarian Leadership Academy and UNICEF. His expertise in strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, quality assurance, risk management, and leadership development supports Lively Minds in delivering scalable early childhood development programmes.

Eleanor Sykes
Interim advocacy and communications lead

Eleanor is the interim advocacy and communications lead. She has always worked in education and spent the first 20 years of her professional life as a primary school teacher, with significant time teaching Early Years (being a teacher was always her Plan A, there was never a Plan B).   

She moved into working in education in lower-income settings in 2016, spending time in classrooms and with teachers, and working on a range of projects from accelerated learning programmes to digital foundational teacher training courses in south, southern, east and west Africa. Eleanor joined Lively Minds in 2024, working with the curriculum team, and is now using her extensive educational perspective and early years teaching experience to inform her role in advocacy and communications.   

Eleanor is a voracious traveller, and has visited 73 countries at the last count. She lived in London for most of her adult life, but now lives in Suffolk with her two very needy poodles, and is either perpetually covered in mud, or hanging with her menagerie of nieces and nephews.  

Beth Vuckovic
Manager of Special Projects

Beth Vuckovic is our Manager of Special Projects at Lively Minds, currently based in Tamale, Ghana.

In this role, Beth researches, plans and leads on various innovation projects across the organisation, with the aim of further strengthening our programme's impact and reach.  

Beth joined us following a few years in the UK Civil Service, working on policy, stakeholder engagement and project delivery within the Department for Health and the Home Office.

Before that, Beth spent 2 years working at an international education charity on schools engagement and managing projects across Thailand and Cambodia. To take on this role, Beth moved to join the charity at their headquarters on a small island in Scotland!  

Beth loves to explore and understand new places and cultures and feels so fortunate that both her personal travel and her career so far has allowed her to do this!  

Japhet Oppong Yeboah
Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist

Japhet is a dedicated Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with over 10 years of experience in the field. His journey began with a passion for understanding the intricacies of project performance and the vital role that data plays in shaping successful outcomes. As the M&E Specialist at Lively Minds, Japhet is responsible for managing data, data quality assurance, training and building capacity of project actors and stakeholders on M&E tools and systems, periodic data analysis and reporting, etc.

Japhet have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of organizations, from grassroots NGOs to large international agencies. Before joining Lively Minds, Japhet worked as the Zonal M&E coordinator for the USAID Learning program between 2017 to 2023.  

Japhet holds an MPhil in Educational Innovations and Leadership Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Japhet has also received training in data programming digital data collection tools such as ODK, Kobo, and various data management systems.

In summary, Japhet, is a passionate Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist dedicated to leveraging data for impactful change. His experience, combined with his commitment to continuous improvement and capacity building, drives him to contribute positively to the organizations and communities he serves.  

Noble Abingya
Radio Manager

Noble is the radio Manager based in Bolgatanga-Ghana. He leads the implementation of the radio programme in called Lively Minds Together in Ghana, with more than a decade of experience in project management, procurement, monitoring and evaluation.

He rose through the organization from 2018 as a community development officer to District Coordinator in 2020.

He has worked with various organizations in West Africa and North America within the agricultural and engineering sectors where he was responsible for monitoring ethical fishing practices and procurement of materials for the construction of storage tanks in the Tema Oil refinery.

He studied Adult Education and human resource at the University of Ghana and Marine Engineering from Regional Maritime University.

Noble is excited to be part of a team that is poised to impact positive change in the lives of the rural communities in Ghana.

He is a trained pilot with a commercial license.

David Abukari
Quality and Learning Manager

David is the Quality & Learning Manager based in Tamale-Ghana. In this role, David has led the implementation of the Manager Checks Project. He has supported the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points process between Lively Minds and the National Teachers Council (NTC). He supports other programme activities in the field. David has been on this role for the past seven years.
Until his current role, David was the first Country Manager of Lively Minds Ghana. He occupied this position from 2008 to 2017. As Country Manager, David led the programme implementation, recruitment, finance and administration as well as managing stakeholders.

David has about two decades of experience working in the NGO sector. Before he joined the NGO sector, he worked as a classroom teacher from 1998 to 2004.
He holds a master’s degree in NGO Management and Rural Development from University for Development Studies.

At his leisure time, David spends time in his farm taking care of birds and other farm animals.

David easily makes friends across the globe.

Georgina Adongo
Upper East and West Regional Manager

Georgina leads the implementation activities for one region in Ghana and is based in Bolga. Georgina leads a team to deliver the implementation activities and leads the Bolga office.  
Georgina joined Lively Minds in 2015 as a community development Officer.

She grew with Lively Minds and through her hard work, has occupied roles such as Training officer, Senior Training officer and now the Upper East and West Regional Manager.
She holds a BA in Geography and Rural Development and currently studying MSc. in Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.  

She is passionate about women empowerment and the fact that the Lively Minds project is gives women/parents opportunities to develop their skills in parenting and in personal confidence.  

She loves children and spends her leisure time with family playing with their pets. She also loves reading or listening to life lessons and historical stories about life experience.

Caesar Alleonu
Junior Finance and Admin Manager

Caesar Alleonu is the Junior Finance and Admin Manager for Lively Minds' Ghana office, where he leads the finance team and over sees operations in the Bolga, Tamale, and Techiman offices. Collaborating closely with the Director of Finance in UK, Caesar ensures the seamless management of financial operations.

Caesar holds an HND in Accounting and a BSc in Computerized Accounting. He's currently pursuing a Commonwealth Master's in Business Administration (Accounting option) through a distance learning program at Kwame Nkrumah University of Technology.

With almost 10 years of service, Caesar has demonstrated dedication and commitment to Lively Minds' mission. He's progressed from Finance and Admin Officer to Coordinator and now Junior Finance Manager, bringing valuable experience and expertise to his current position.

Outside of work, Caesar cherishes time spent with his two beautiful daughters, who bring immense joy and fulfillment to his life.

Philip Dokorugu
Bono, Bono East and Savannah Regional Manager

Philip leads the implementation activities for one region in Ghana and is based in Techiman. Philip leads a team to deliver the implementation activities and leads the Techiman office.

Philip joined Lively Minds on 17th, April 2017 as a Training Officer, acting Northern Regional Manager and currently, the Regional Manager for Bono, Bono East and Savannah Regions.

He was the first GES Liaise Officer by promotion in 2018 and the first Senior Liaise Officer in 2019 offering coaching and guidance to other Liaises, District LMCs, and their teams for the first ever whole-District-rollout of the GES Lively Minds programme in 2018 with 42 rural schools under him, he also has expertise in technical training and extension education for rural families.

Philip holds BSc. Agriculture Technology (Economics and Extension) from University for Development Studies and currently pursuing MSc. Project management at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.

He believes in leading people by example and with positive mindset.  

Philip directs Music and loves singing and dancing with his children, making friends, sharing experiences with the aged, and watching mystical movies.

Joachim Paala Gornah
Sustainability Specialist

Joachim Gornah is a Sustainability Specialist with over 15 years of experience in Project Management, Organizational Development (OD), Policy, and Procurement within the NGO sector. Since joining Lively Minds in February 2022, he has led sustainability initiatives, ensuring long-term impact in early childhood education through stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, and policy advocacy.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Linguistics (University of Ghana), a Postgraduate Diploma in OD (UCC), and an LLM in Public Procurement Law and Policy (University of Nottingham, UK). He is also pursuing a PhD in NGO Studies and Community Development at the University of Cape Coast. As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), he excels in managing large-scale projects within budget, scope, and quality standards.

Joachim has worked across academia, public service, and consulting, collaborating with organizations such as JICA, USAID/JHPIEGO, CRS, and district assemblies. His expertise in capacity-building, community mobilization, and strategic planning drives sustainable interventions that empower communities and improve learning outcomes for young children in the countries that Lively Minds operate.

Portia Tiehinye Loggah
Sustain Manager

Portia is a result driven professional with a rural development background. As a Sustain Manager with lively minds Ghana, Portia leads a team to support sustain implementation through conducting analysis, organizing consultation visits to districts and undertaking robust quality assurance in sustain districts. With her leadership, it will ensure that sustain is working efficiently and meeting stage gates

Before assuming the role of Sustain Manager, Portia served as a District coordinator for two years for upper West and Upper East Regions where she successfully coordinated the implementation of the GES Lively minds programme in 18 embed and sustain districts. Portia also served as a District Liaise officer for a year prior to becoming a District Coordinator where she supported building the capacity of GES officers in 3 districts through training, coaching and mentoring.

Portia is currently completing my MSc. in Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and She holds a Bachelor of Art in Geography and Rural Development from same Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She is passionate about women empowerment and gender rated issues.

Iddrisu Yakubu
Training Manager

Iddrisu Yakubu joined Lively Minds in 2014, having discovered the organisation when working next door to LM as the Director of Community Partnership for Youth and Women Development.

He has over 10 years teaching experience at both Basic and Senior High schools in the public sector. I got to know the LM team and realised that the Lively Minds strategy, philosophy vision and mission was in line with the work he wanted to be doing. He joined LM as Programme Coordinator, then to Training officer and Currently as Training Manager.

He moved over the wall, bringing my over13 years' experience as a development facilitator, an educationist and with Early Childhood development programmes within the Northern sector of Ghana.

His interest and passion in life has been to see children get the right quality foundation that will serve as springboard for their growth and development and has always wanted to work in this area. He holds a Diploma and a Degree Technology Education and a master’s in training and development.

Remus Brett
Trustee

Remus spent the past 10 years setting up and growing a management consultancy business, Finalta, which was acquired by McKinsey in 2011. During this time, Remus took the business from concept to a global company with nearly 100 employees in four regional offices.

Remus had the opportunity to meet our Founder, Alison Naftalin, in 2014 and was hugely impressed with the work we were doing and Alison’s vision for our future. Remus brings hands-on experience of scaling a business and says he is “passionate to use these skills to help Lively Minds further extend the impact of the fantastic work being done in Ghana and Uganda".

Gordon Carver
Trustee

Gordon first met Ali, Lively Minds’ Founder, in 2013 while he was running a Girls’ Education NGO in Ghana.

After seeing the superb Lively Minds model in action in several rural Kindergartens, Gordon was an immediate Early Childhood Development convert and therefore, when Ali asked him to join the Board of Trustees five years later, Gordon instantly accepted.

 

Gordon has spent over 16 years working in the education and international development sectors, and he has lived in Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana, in each of which he has helped launch new education organisations. Gordon is now the UK Managing Director for Etio (which delivers national education programmes for the Department of Education across England), and a Trustee of a large multi-academy trust (Oasis Community Learning).  Gordon looks forward to helping support Lively Minds in its next phase of growth and continuing to champion the importance of early childhood development.

Bradley Mulroney
Trustee

Bradley has been a trustee since 2023 and sits on Lively Minds’ Finance & Audit Committee as well as the Renumeration & Nomination Committee. Bradley held senior executive positions with Lafarge Group for 30 years, with a particular focus on Asia. He worked and lived overseas for over 15 years and is passionate about exploring and understanding different cultures. The lack of formal ECD opportunities within the countries he worked was evident and so he didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose to join the Lively Minds board as a trustee. Bradley enjoys theatre and a wide range of music.

Lydia Obaye
Trustee

Lydia is a Chartered Company Secretary and serves as the Head of Governance at The Guinness Partnership, where she leads the governance and insurance teams. Based in London, Lydia brings extensive expertise in governance and regulatory compliance across a range of sectors. 

Outside of her professional commitments, Lydia runs a floristry business and is often on travels to new countries. These hobbies help her stay grounded and inspired in her work.

Peter Ryan
Chair of Board

Peter has a marketing and business background gained from mainstream multinational consumer goods companies across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

He then started a number of UK businesses in the food, traceability and parking services area before founding the MicroLoan Foundation, a micro-finance charity that provides business training, mentoring and small business ‘start-up’ loans to poor women in rural sub-Saharan Africa.

Peter has a strong affiliation to Africa and is keen to bring his skills to help Lively Minds scale up its operations.

Erin Williamson
Treasurer and Chair of Finance and Audit Committee

Erin was appointed trustee in the role of treasurer and as chair of the finance and audit committee by the board in January 2023. Erin is a Chartered Accountant and a proven business leader who uniquely combines over 20 years of risk management, audit and financial oversight with strategic and commercial expertise.

She is well versed in the design and implementation of robust governance operating models and has broad international experience in the financial services and technology industries, spanning Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, with a demonstrated track record of articulating and executing growth strategies.
